What other literary devices do you see in this book? Can you relate to the characters? What personal connections do you make as you read?
"Maybe we sped things up a little, but you really can't say we murdered him. Not murdered him." This literary term is foreshadowing. It means that later in the story he could end up murdered.
Yes I can relate to the characters in this story. I can make connections to the characters because when they went to the Pigman's house they felt sorry for the old man because they think he is lonely. I sometimes feel that old people can be lonely and I feel bad for them just like they did.
The literary devices used in the book would be conflict, because they're deciding whether or not they actually murdered him. They're not sure what to think about it. John and Lorraine are probably trying to say they went to far. They got themselves in to deep.
One device in the book is Characterization which is revealing the personality of a character in the story. Yes I can relate to the characters in this book. The personal connections in this book is the characters because when they first went to the Pigman's house they felt bad that he was all alone, but today thats why you see a lot of old people with pets cause the pets keeps them company.
Foreshadowing- An example from the book is in chapter 6 page 48, when Lorraine states, "That was the first omen. I should have left right there on the spot." It was when Lorraine went to go buy some peanuts at the zoo, The peanut lady was giving off a vibe that she hated kids. Since she didn't leave she know that more omens were coming.
Comic Relief- Lorraine, John and their two friends Norton and Dennis do pranks on the phone they will call random people and ask if their refrigerator is running. If they say yes, John would say then you better go catch it.
I believe that is funny and mean.
The literary devices used are conflict and characterization. Yes I can relate to the characters in different ways. Having a rough life and moving to a town where no one knows you is hard, but it gets easier when you meet that one true friend that you can tell everything and have a lot of fun with.
A part in the book that I think is interesting is how Lorraine's mom always tells her that she is not a very pretty girl, "Your not a very pretty girl, Lorraine." chapter 2, page 9.
